Sales
Sales representatives work to provide customer service to patrons and acquire new accounts with clients in businesses and government-based facilities.
There are tons of branches within the world of sales. Every business works by creating revenue and this is done through the sales and marketing divisions. Types of jobs in sales include: accounting, government sales, insurance, retail, administrative assistant, and sales manager.
Although a high school diploma or equivalent is necessary for a career in sales, those who earn an associate’s degree in marketing stand a better chance of obtaining a more prestigious job title. This could also lead to increased pay and advancement opportunities. By taking courses in communication and economic studies they will be able to speak with clients more effectively and make better business decisions.
Because there are so many different career paths in sales, salaries differ greatly. While a retail sales associate might earn $8 to $10 per hour, an insurance sales agent could earn up to $160,000 a year. On average, though, the salary for those in sales is $59,000 annually.*
For those who enjoy interacting with people and working with numbers, a job in sales and marketing is best for them. Typically, someone who enjoys the thrill of money and has a knack for being persuasive will greatly succeed in this career.
