An occupational therapy professional helps people with physical, mental, emotional or developmental handicaps improve their ability to perform daily living tasks or tasks encountered in the work environment. The goal of the occupational therapy professional is to help their clients achieve a greater amount of independence by finding ways to improve motor function or to compensate for permanent loss of function.
Recommended Qualifications
In order to obtain an entry-level position as an occupational therapy professional, you must obtain a minimum of a master's degree in the field. Occupational therapy professionals must also be licensed before they can provide services to their clients. To become licensed, you must graduate from an accredited program while also passing a national licensing examination.
A good candidate for a career as an occupational therapy professional is someone who is patient and who possesses strong interpersonal skills. Those who are interested in working with others and helping them live a better life are particularly well suited to this career.
