What to Expect

A person in a management position is responsible for developing strategies to help a business achieve its goals. Depending upon the type of management position held, a manager may also be responsible for formulating policies, supervising cash flow, training personnel, and overseeing the work of employees. Regardless of the position held, those who are involved with management are also regularly called upon to generate reports and make certain the company's objectives are being met.

Recommended Qualifications

In order to obtain a management position with a company, you generally must earn a minimum of a bachelor's degree in management or business. Depending upon the industry in which you wish to work, you may also need to take coursework that is specific to a particular industry. If you wish to manage engineers, for example, taking engineering classes or earning an engineering degree with a minor in management may be necessary.

A good candidate for a management position is someone with good leadership skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Those who have an aptitude for business and are interested in finding ways to help a business become as profitable as possible are particularly well suited to this career.
