Makeup
What To Expect
A makeup specialist is someone who applies makeup to clients in order to help them achieve a desired effect. Although many makeup specialists work as cosmetologists who provide their services in beauty salons, other makeup specialists work in theater or as performance makeup artists. In this case, the makeup may be used to bring out the best features of the actors or to create a dramatic effect that is necessary for the performance.
Recommended Qualifications
In order to become a cosmetologist, most states require completion of an approved program through a cosmetology school. In addition, before you may begin working as a makeup artist, you will need to obtain a license in the state where you work. Obtaining licensure requires successful completion of a written examination and, in most states, a practical examination must be completed as well.
A good candidate for a career as a makeup artist is someone who has good communication skills and an eye for fashion and beauty. Those who have good people skills and are interested in helping people look their bests are particularly well suited to this career.
