Your criminal justice career will enable you to better protect and serve your family and your community. When you choose criminal justice, it opens your career path up to multiple options and possibilities. You can choose the law enforcement field and become a police officer, detective, probation officer or prison official. You could also choose a more scientific field of criminal justice and work in the crime lab gathering and processing evidence found at crime scenes. You even have the option of working for a federal law enforcement agency.
With your criminal justice degree you’ll be qualified to work for state or city police agencies, corrections agencies, courts, or crime labs. You can also work in criminal justice on the federal level as an FBI agent, Homeland Security Agent or Fish and Wildlife Ranger.
Recommended Qualifications
You career in criminal justice will require a lot of technical and specialized training exclusive to the field. You can obtain the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career by completing a criminal justice degree or certification. Criminal justice degrees are offered through accredited career colleges, community colleges, vocational school and traditional colleges or universities. Your criminal justice degree program will include courses in constitutional law, civil rights, State laws, local ordinances, criminal investigation methods, firearms, self-defense, first aid, emergency response, information technology, computer science and psychology.
