What To Expect
In cosmetology, you’ll help clients with a variety of beauty, grooming and personal appearance services. Your cosmetology duties may entail shampooing, cutting, trimming, coloring and styling hair in a fashion that makes your client look good and feel confident. You’ll consult with clients and use your cosmetology knowledge to determine hair care and style maintenance. You’ll also provide specialized cosmetology services like skin care, facials, makeup analysis, manicures, pedicures, nail extensions and polishing.
Recommended Qualifications
Your cosmetology career path will begin with formal cosmetology training at a state licensed beauty school, cosmetology college, vocational school, trade school, or community college. Your cosmetology program can include courses in hairstyling, skin care, nail care and other personal appearance services. *Cosmetology programs can be completed in 9 to 18 months. After you’ve completed your cosmetology training program you’ll be eligible to take a state mandated test to receive your cosmetology license.
