To get into you Communication Technician career you must complete a certificate, associates degree or bachelor’s degree program at a vocational school, technical institute, career college, or traditional college or university. You can get your Communication Technician degree in 18 – 48 months. Training to become a Communication Technician will include: electronic theory and principles, installation tools and methods, two-way radio maintenance, principles of radio and electronic communications equipment, electronic equipment construction, and repair.
You can use your Communication Technician skills working in broadcasting electronics, cable television, satellite communications, two-way radio, cellular communications, fiber optics, or wireless transmissions. Your Communication Technician can include audiovisual technology, broadcast engineering or cable TV maintenance. You can also work for the Federal or State Government in military electronics, electronic research and development, fiber optic technician, electronics technician, engineering aide or engineering specialist. Some technicians work for satellite or cell phone companies as an installation technician, instrument manufacturing technician, consumer electronics technician, field service engineer, and electronic systems salesperson or satellite service technician.
