CDL/Commercial Driving
What To Expect
A commercial driving career will give you the sense of freedom that only comes on the open road. As a commercial driving professional you’ll keep the country functioning by transporting and delivering products, clothing, food, beverages, equipment and machinery to retail stores, construction companies and industrial facilities.
Recommended Qualifications
In order to become a commercial driving professional you’ll need to complete a commercial driving training program. These programs take three to nine months to complete. You can enroll in a Commercial driving program at a certified truck driving school, or at a community college, vocational school or career college with an accredited Commercial driving program. In your Commercial driving courses you’ll learn how to operate various sized semi-trucks and big rigs.
You’ll also learn how to attach the trailer and safely tow it through city streets, parking lots and heaving traffic areas. In your commercial driving courses you’ll also learn all Federal Highway Administration guidelines and regulations that must be followed. Once you’ve completed your Commercial driving program you’ll be eligible to take your State’s CDL driver’s license test, and start your career.
