Job duties include heavy phone work, working with clients individually, or presenting information to large groups; excellent communication skills are a must. Customer service is one of the most important factors for a successful airline or travel specialist as they are working with clients to make reservations or recommendations for air travel. They are expected to have extensive knowledge of transportation arrangements as well as provide information on many destinations. A travel specialist should be knowledgeable about the required documents necessary for international travel to properly prepare their clients.
In additional to experienced travelers, those who posses skills with computers, public speaking abilities and sales training and experience often make the best travel specialists. Entry-level jobs can be found requiring vocational school to learn the software used to book travel. These courses can be completed in several months and offer students a great way into a job in the travel industry.
