Recommended Qualifications
Aircraft dispatchers have a heavy load of responsibility and must be licensed by the FAA. This profession requires both the technical skills needed to make decisions about flights and stellar communication skills to work with flight crews on the ground and in the air. When preparing for this competitive profession, course study includes meteorology, Federal Aviation Regulations, navigation, aircraft instruments, air traffic control, dispatching guidelines, and other aeronautical studies. Aircraft dispatchers must have basic knowledge of the aircraft’s maintenance schedule as well as general knowledge of piloting a craft.
